NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — A northern New Jersey man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for his role in at least 27 burglaries and attempted burglaries in six states.
Daniel Gatson and another man were convicted last year.
At the time of their arrest in 2013, prosecutors said the crime spree started days after Gatson was released from a stint in prison for breaking into the home of former basketball star Patrick Ewing.
Investigators alleged the crew targeted affluent homes and typically cut phone lines and alarm wires before breaking in.
The U.S. attorney’s office says Gatson and co-defendant Anthony Hanks burglarized homes in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia, causing losses of over $3.5 million dollars, mainly in jewelry and cash.
