2 Dead in Plane Crash Outside Fredericksburg

WASHINGTON – At least two people are dead after a small plane crashed near Shannon Airport in Spotsylvania County on Friday, Virginia State Police said.

State police said the small plane crash landed at 12:26 p.m. and quickly caught on fire.

The small general aviation airport just outside the Fredericksburg City limits is just south of the Fredericksburg Agricultural Fairgrounds on U.S. 17 Business (Tidewater Trail). The airstrip is next to the Fredericksburg Field House.

A rider on an Amtrak train said her train was briefly stopped as firefighters responded to the crash scene.
