D.C. Yoga Week Kicks Off Sunday

Hoping to provide some relaxation for busy Washingtonians, D.C. Yoga Week kicks off this Sunday. The opening event is Yoga on the National Mall (free; 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.), a large-scale outdoor gathering featuring a 3:30 p.m. demonstration by Shiva Rea, a well known practitioner of the prana flow yoga style.

D.C. Yoga Week has also paired with a bunch of local studios to offer discounted classes through May 21. You could try a hot yoga (in heated rooms) class at the popular Bikram Yoga for $5 or a grab bag of free or equally cheap courses at Flow Yoga Center in Logan Circle. Circle Yoga is offering $5 classes for new moms and kids.

Check out a full schedule of events and a list of participating studios here. Also note that Yoga Week concludes with a yoga flash mob in John Marshall Park, put on the Asian Heritage Foundation on May 21 at 10 a.m. Should be a good time even if downward dog isn't your thing.
