The D.C. food scene has been getting some national love in list-form over the last month, for things both upscale and casual.
Using the Zagat rating system, Forbes named Vietnamese spot Pho 14 one of the country's Best Eats for the Buck. Restaurants' food scores, which are determined by food quality, decor and service, were divided by their average costs. Pho 14 came it at an honorable number seven.
On the other end of the spectrum, Bon Appetit just released its list of the 11 Toughest Restaurant Reservations in the USA. José Andrés' tiny Minibar comes it at number five. According to the reservationist:
"Minibar is open Tuesday through Saturday and we have two seatings of six guests each—one at 6 p.m. and one at 8:30 p.m. We take reservations one month in advance; we have two phone lines that begin ringing at 10 minutes to 10 a.m. to get a reservation one month from now, and they ring straight through to about 10:30 a.m. Most people know that by 10:30 a.m., the 12 slots will be filled."
We wonder, however, if this list takes into account Minibar's upcoming expansion, which might transform the six-seat counter into a multi-level eatery.
