While in Dallas for Super Bowl weekend, Eagles tight end Brent Celek noticed Chris Cooley wearing a pair of Toms shoes. They got to talking and realized that they both had a relationship with the company.
And then, as it usually does when the Redskins and Eagles are involved, it got competitive.
Brent asked Chris if he wanted to have a friendly competition on Twitter to see who could sell more shoes. Last Friday they set up promotion codes to use when purchasing through Toms.com (Chris’s is CC47). And then it was on.
“Starting a 10-day competition with @thecooleyzone at 6 o'clock. I will win bc eagles fans r more passionate!” tweeted Celek.
“Help me crush @BrentCelek in this competition,” responded Cooley .
Cooley’s brother Tanner confirmed the intensity.
“As it is such a great cause, both obviously want to sell a bunch of Toms," he said. "But I know both are getting competitive about it.”
For those who aren’t familiar, Toms shoes promises to match every pair of shoes purchased with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need. From the fan response on Twitter, it seems there will be quite a few children with new shoes.
As for what else is at stake, it could get interesting.
“There are no personal wagers, but there is still time to make a bet out of this,” Tanner said. “Maybe loser has to do a touchdown dance of the winner’s choice.”
