They were born May 28 to six-year-old Amani at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute (SCBI) in Front Royal, Va.

Amani also gave birth to a single cub six months ago, who's being raised by another mother, Zazi. Zazi also had a single cub. Since cheetah moms usually can't produce enough milk for only one cub, Zazi is caring for both cubs, now named Nick and Maggie.

The birth of the litter is important not just for cuteness. Although the zoo's Conservation Institute has the two single six-month-old cubs, the new five cubs comprise "the only litter of cheetahs born this year in a North American zoo," the zoo says on its website.
