Come Out and Show Your Capital Pride

Got pride?

You might have missed Mr. and Ms. Capital Pride Leather Friday night, but you can still unleash your pride this weekend during Capital Pride Week, and catch Mr. and Miss Capital Pride at 7 p.m. tonight.

Other highlights include: Saturday happy hours for men (5-8 p.m., Nellie's, 900 U St. NW) and women (6-9 p.m., Phase I, 525 8th St. SE), a Sunday morning 5K Run for Pride and Sunday night with the Mystics

This year's Pride Week marks the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots with the theme "Generations of Pride Celebrate and Remember." For those of you who cut history class a few too many times, the Stonewall Riots were a series of demonstrations against a police raid of Stonewall Inn in 1969. The riots were one of the major events that sparked the U.S. gay rights movement.

It all wraps up June 14 with a pride parade (sure it's more than a week of fun, but who's complaining?), the Pride after Dark dance party and the week's headlining entertainment, RuPaul, during the street festival. A whole lot of fabulous is guaranteed.

With 250,000 people in attendance, Capital Pride is one of the largest LGBT events in the nation. For a full list of the week's events and additional information, visit the Capital Pride Web site.
