Ocean City Icon Reopening After Being Destroyed by Fire

The owner of the Dough Roller, an Ocean City boardwalk icon destroyed by fire, said the pizzeria will reopen in a new building next week.

Bill Gibbs said they'll open March 27, pending municipal permits and inspections and hold a grand opening about a week later.

The 9,800-square-foot building replaces a restaurant, T-shirt shop and second-floor apartments destroyed in a nine-alarm fire last March. Marty's Playland nextdoor was seriously damaged.

The fire started in an alley between the arcade and restaurant after a Dough Roller employee flicked a cigarette from a window. The Ocean City Fire Marshal's office ruled the blaze accidental. The employee was charged with arson and later acquitted.
