Beer Vs. Wine Throwdown: It's ON

Watch (and Drink) the Fallout at Columbia Firehouse

How's that old booze formula go, again? Beer before wine, you'll be fine? Wine before beer, you're in the clear? Whoa, wait, they're both OK? Yesss.

Guess you've got the go-ahead for the Beer vs. Wine Throwdown at Columbia Firehouse (109 S. Saint Asaph St., Alexandria), Saturday, July 24 from 3 to 5 p.m.

Go try six small plates, including dry-aged roast beef with buttermilk blue, and tuna tartare tacos. Each comes with wine and beer pairings, and it's up to you to decide which rules.

The goodies will be chosen by Neighborhood Restaurant Group Wine Director Juliana Santos and Beer Director Greg Engert, who will be there trying to sway the votes.

Start the smack-talking! "When they start making beer that deserves to be cellared for five years, tell Greg to call me," Santos said. Ooooh.... them's fightin' words.

Call (703) 683-1776 for reservations. The event is $45 per person.
