Beef Up Your Brain (and Belly)

Just don't expect your IQ to make a move

This Thursday, the Third Annual Brainfood Grill-Off will pair famous DC chefs with recent graduates of the Brainfood program and other grilling enthusiasts in an "Iron-Chef"-style battle of the grill.

Brainfood is a local nonprofit program that offers high school students after-school and summer cooking activities that teach healthy living in a safe and stable environment. Students learn basic culinary skills and nutritional information through hands-on activities, field trips, and classroom sessions.

At this week's event, some of DC's finest chefs -- think Teddy Folkman (Granville Moore's and currently on "Next Food Network Star") and Anthony Chittum (Vermilion and 2009 RAMMY winner for Rising Culinary Star) -- will spearhead a tong-wielding team that will fire up two original dishes to be judged by local foodies, including Amanda McClements of Metrocurean. Your $75 ticket also includes cooking demos, a live auction, hors d'oeuvres and an open bar. And of course, your pledge of support to Brainfood will make a huge difference in the lives of DC youth.

Plus, if you choose wisely at the open bar, we're sure you will get your money's worth. And maybe -- just maybe -- an embarrassing story to blab to your colleagues on Friday.
