The most powerful woman in television is in the spotlight again -- this time for an unauthorized tell-all book that's hitting bookstore shelves tomorrow.
In "Oprah: A Biography," author Kitty Kelley writes Oprah Winfrey is a remarkable, complicated and contradictory woman. And like many of Kelley's other biographies, this one is full of titillating details about the media mogul that were born out of years of research and hundreds of interviews, Kelley said.
One of the personal details included in the book--Oprah's alleged romance with John Tesh.
In the book Kelley claims Oprah was involved in a relationship with John Tesh -- that she and Tesh were live-in lovers in the 1970s in Tennessee, where they worked together at a local television station. The social pressure on the interracial couple proved too much for Tesh, and he left her in the middle of the night, Kelley wrote. Tesh eventually became the host of "Entertainment Tonight," and, well, we all know what happened to Oprah.
Kelley also wrote in the book that Oprah refuses to give her phone number to her own mother. Oprah takes good care of her mother, supporting her financially and providing her with a car and driver, but she said Oprah's mother has to call her daughter's assistant to get in touch with her, Kelley wrote. Oprah's spokeswoman says that
Oprah is not commenting on the book, which is already 19 on Amazon.com's best sellers list thanks to pre-orders.
Kelley is headlining a discussion and book signing in Georgetown. The DC Public Library Foundation is hosting the event at St. John's Episcopal Church on April 25 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Seating is limited, so you have to reserve a spot by April 22.
