All-Vegan Weekends at Toscana Grill

Arlington eatery goes vegan on weekends in April

Looking for a little less animal on your plate?  Want to clean out the cholesterol in your spring diet?  Want a side of compassion with that cold beer?

Toscana Grill in Arlington (2300 Clarendon Blvd.) is making it easier to have a nice meal that emphasizes the flora, not the fauna.

Every weekend during the month of April, Toscana Grill will go 100 percent vegan.  Vegan is heavy veggie.  No dairy or eggs.  But it isn't just tofu and bean sprouts.  In fact,  these days vegan cuisine is so "haute" it can look like something that came out of the Top Chef competition.

Toscana Grill is trying veg with the help of animal rights group Compassion Over Killing (COK).   Executive Director Erica Meier has been encouraging area restaurants to expand their vegetarian and vegan options.   More people are leaning away from the omnivore diet and opting for the plant-based one.  It's healthier, it reduces greenhouse gases (animals make methane) and it  means fewer animals going through the horrors of a slaughterhouse.
