Brave souls claim to have a perfectly good reason to jump in the cold waters at Lake Anne Plaza next month.
The fourth annual Freezin’ For A Reason Virginia Polar Dip will take place Feb. 5 in Reston, Va. Organizers are collecting money now from hopeful participants.
The money raised will go to Camp Sunshine. The national year-round retreat is for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
The Virginia Polar Dip was started in 2008 by the Toth family. They participated in Camp Sunshine in 1996 with their daughter, Jennifer, who was a cancer patient at age three. The Toths have returned to volunteer at the camp every summer since.
Since 2008, this arctic dip has raised more than $73,000 for the camp. Organizers hope to raise $75,000 this year. That will allow 37 families from the D.C. area to attend Camp Sunshine.
So you think you can hang with the brave arctic swimmers? Participants are asked to make a $100 minimum donation. You may also want to get a creative costume together.
