4/25: Filmfest D.C.'s Oscar-Nominated Shorts

Plus, A Thousand Blooms and the Off the Ramp Celebration

SHORT AND SWEET: Short attention span? Good! Catch the five Academy Award-nominated animated shorts at the Avalon Theatre (5612 Connecticut Ave. N.W.), including the new Wallace & Gromit feature, "A Matter of Loaf and Death." The entire show runs an hour and 41 minutes. 7:30 p.m.; $10.50.

I.D. REDO: A Thousand Blooms takes over, appropriately enough, BloomBars (3222 11th St. N.W.), with an art-and-music installation that aims to reexamine social norms. Catwalk models will don Love Tees featuring prints of gay, lesbian, interfaith and interracial couple, with proceeds from sales to benfit gay marriage advocacy. Short films will explore racial and family identities, and the True Beauty exhibit will offer a look into their new D.C. photobook$6; 6-9 p.m.

RAMP IT UP: Earth Day's over, but the Off Ramp celebration keeps it going with music, food and culture commemorating Earth Day at the Long View Gallery (1234 9th St N.W.). Catch an exhibit by Architecture for Humanity, music from local DJs and the band U.S. Royalty, silk screening and vegan cuisine. One warning: cash bar. $20; 3-9 p.m.
