12/15: “The Story of Cosmetics”

Plus, a Festivus Bash and Dubstep at U Street

BEAUTY BEASTS: If you're seen the eye-opening web documentary "The Story of Stuff," you'll probably be interested in other Annie Leonard vehicle, "The Story of Cosmetics: The Ugly Truth of Toxics In, Toxics Out." Head to the Watha T. Daniel-Shaw Interim Library (945 Rhode Island Ave. N.W.) for a viewing party -- and bring along a couple items you use daily, such as shampoo or fragrances. Learn about the more dangerous ingredients in many products and learn how to find safer ones. 6:30-8:30 p.m.; free.

FOR THE REST OF US: Rustico (827 Slaters Lane, Alexandria and 4075 Wilson Blvd., Arlington) throws a Festivus 2010 bash for beer lovers at both locations, which "means two things: an evening of brewed euphoria and ridiculous outpouring of holiday revelry." Alexandria's pours include Tröegs Mad Elf and Bell's Christmas Ale. In Arlington, offerings include Schlafly Christmas Ale and Aecht Schlenkerla Oak Smoke. 6-9 p.m.; no cover.

LISTEN UP: Called one of the "influential pioneers of the heavier dubstep sound," Emalkay brings base-heavy tracks to U Street Music Hall (1115 U St. N.W.) with openers Grime Syndicate and Dubstep Legion of Doom. 9 p.m.; $10 in advance.
