WELL-HEELED:Just think of it as the fashion event of the year! Every year on the Tuesday before Halloween, the drag queens take over 17th Street (between Church and R streets) for the Dupont High Heel Race. The actual race takes less than five minutes, so the real fun is to be had beforehand (schmoozing with the runners while the sashay and/or prep) and afterward (bars, obvy). Our tip for max classiness: Hit up the CVS for Halloween candy. You can share with the drag queens... or stuff your face. Either way, it's a good time. Race 9 p.m.; free.
EAT FOR A CAUSE: The March of Dimes Signature Chef Auction features 20 of D.C.'s top chefs, including 2010's honorary chef is Ris Lacoste, at the Ritz-Carlton (1150 22nd St. N.W.). The evening includes a VIP reception, tastings, live and silent auctions, and dessert. 5 p.m.; $200.
HALLO-WOOF: Let's continue to use dogs as child substitutes. Yay! Bring your Halloween-costumed doggeh to the heated outdoor patio of Tommy Joe's (4714 Montgomery Lane, Bethesda), for DogCentric's Spooktacular Canine Happy Hour. You'll find door prizes and a dog costume contest. Fur kids must be on non-retractable leaches and up to date on vaccinations. 7:30 p.m. costume contest; $10 donation at the door to the Washington Animal Rescue League.
