Hip-Hop Theater Festival 2011

The Hip Hop Theater Festival will return to D.C. for its 10-year anniversary! Started in New York City, the festival celebrates the vivacious hip-hop culture with all forms of art and entertainment.

From July 11-16, you’ll get to fill your life with hip-hop theater, dance, humanities, and music.

Allied with the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH), the festival’s committee brings events that can be enjoyed by hip-hop fans of all ages. It kicks-off Monday with their critically acclaimed lyricism and poetry exhibit at Busboys and Poets. The show gathers talented artists from around the country who will perform according to the “theme of the MC.”  Open to the public, the event kicks off at 6 p.m.

On the following day, there’ll be the 6th annual J. Dilla Tribute Concert & Fundraiser at the 9:30 Club. Pharcyde, God'sllla, Wes Felton and others will all be on the mic for the evening. Proceeds will go to the J. Dilla Foundations and the Lupus foundation of America. Buy the tix for the concert here.
