The News4 I-Team used the D.C. Freedom of Information Act to obtain the city’s list of 311 calls requesting pothole repair from July 1, 2012, until Feb. 20, 2015. Using this data, we calculated the number of days each repair took. For those repairs that are still “open” or “pending,” we calculated the length as of Feb. 20, 2015. We eliminated roughly 155 “canceled” orders and less than a dozen potholes with closure dates that predated their open date for a total of 16,446 potholes included in our map.
