Maryland Officially Member of Big Ten Conference

The Maryland Terrapins' 60-year affiliation with the Atlantic Coast Conference officially ended Tuesday as the university, one of the ACC's founding members, joined the Big Ten.

Along with Rutgers, Maryland will join the likes of Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin as it attempts to forge the same rivalries that carried it through the ACC.

“All it takes is that first time you go to the Big House and you get a call against you and you start hating Michigan,” associate athletics director Ryan Bowles told The Washington Post

To celebrate its entrance into the Big Ten, Maryland will hold an on-campus celebration on Mitchell Field from noon-1:30 p.m. The event will feature the special unveiling of the Big Ten ice cream, interactive games, t-shirt giveaways and appearances by the Mighty Sound of Maryland, Testudo and the Spirit Squad.
