Gov. McDonnell to Head GOP Convention Platform Panel

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell landed one of the key leadership roles at next month's Republican National Convention.

Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus appointed McDonnell to head the platform committee, which signs off on the initiatives the party and its apparent presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, will advocate into the November election.

Sen. John Hoeven of North Dakota and U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee will be McDonnell's co-chairs.

McDonnell is among several Republicans who've been mentioned as potential Romney vice presidential running mates.

The GOP convention runs from Aug. 19-21 in Tampa, Fla.
