Now's your chance to be dumped... err, travel to... an arena... uh, we meant DuPont State Recreational Forest to fight to the fight... cough, we meant, discover filming locations from the "Hunger Games" movies.
Glad we finally got that out there.
Granted, this is not a nearby destination. Brevard, N.C. is a good 500 miles from downtown D.C., but we're doing this for the fans.
You can choose from either a single-day or weekend trip. Day trips ($79/person) are available May 26 and 27, July 14 and 15, and Aug. 11 and 12. An Easter weekend walking tour ($50) will be offered this Saturday, April 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Adventure weekends, on the other hand, run Friday through Sunday for $389. They're available April 27-29, June 8-10, June 22-24, July 27-29, Aug. 24-26, and Sept. 21-23. On Friday night, you'll meet up with your fellow tributes at Earthshine Mountain Lodge, where you'll be separated into Districts and feast on a Hunger Games-style welcoming banquet. (Lamb stew, perhaps?)
On Saturday, you'll be dropped into the forest to seek out clues that will lead you to filming location sites. Your sponsor will be on hand to help, of course. The afternoon includes survival classes that you'll need to participate in the Hunger Games simulations: archery, slingshot training, fire building and more. In the evening, after a dinner offered by the Capitol, you'll go night ziplining a la Katniss and Rue.
On Sunday, you'll meet up for your simulations, and demo your skills to see if you have what it takes to win the games.
And may the odds be ever in your favor!
