Festival Makes Going Green Easy

The Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday

A festival that shows off sustainability hits D.C. this weekend.

The tenth annual D.C. Green Festival at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center is a two-day celebration of vegan and vegetarian cooking, sustainable beer and wine, healthy living education and eco-friendly business.

Start the day with an inspirational lecture about the power of sustainability and then stretch out your legs with one of several free yoga sessions. You can also check out the latest in green goods, from fair-trade jewelry to organic granola bars.

Speakers include Kathleen Merrigan, who serves as executive director of the Sustainable Institute at George Washington University.

Bring the kids along for educational activities including a puppet show and performances by "Eco the Butterfly."

The festival concludes with a "Fashionably Green" fashion show, featuring sustainable textiles and design.

The event, which is the largest and oldest of its kind, is a collaboration of Green America and Global Exchange and visits several major U.S. cities throughout the year.

Tickets to the all-green extravaganza start at $10 for a day pass. To purchase a pass and for a full event schedule, visit the festival website.
