Virginia Grower to Provide Christmas Tree to VP

A Christmas tree grown by a Virginia farmer will be displayed at Vice President Joe Biden's residence in the nation's capital.

A Fraser fir grown by Rodney Richardson of Mt. Rogers Christmas Tree Farm in Whitetop was named reserve champion of the National Christmas Tree Association's annual contest. Traditionally, the reserve champion farmer has provided a Christmas tree for the vice president.

John Wyckoff of Belvidere, N.J., was the grand champion winner and will present a tree to the White House.

To enter the national contest, growers must first win their state or regional competition. Richardson won Virginia's 2012 state contest and provided a 12-foot Fraser fir tree for the Executive Mansion last Christmas.
