Salvadoran-American Day Festival Celebrates Vibrant Salvadoran Culture in D.C. Area

Enjoy Salvadoran food, crafts and entertainment at the 6th Annual Salvadoran-American Day Festival on Sunday.

The large Salvadoran community in Montgomery County and in the Metro area will celebrate their culture Aug. 2 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. The event will be held in the Wheaton Triangle parking lot on the corner of Reedie Drive and Grandview Avenue in Wheaton.

The D.C. metro area has the second-largest Salvadoran population in the U.S. with about 266,934 Salvadoran community members.

Vendors from El Salvador and other Latin American countries will display their culture as local Latino bands perform cumbia, salsa, merengue and rock music. The free festival is family-friendly.

The festival will also feature a health fair for patrons to participate in free health screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, HIV and more. The health fair is coordinated by Maryland State Delegate Ana Sol-Gutiérrez, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield and AARP.

Various community services will be offered, including passport renewals through the Salvadoran consulate and information sessions about upcoming elections and voter registration from the Board of Elections.

There will also be a children's book giveaway with over 1,000 books donated by Books for America.

Attendees are encouraged to park in the Metro garages on Viers Mill and Reedie Drive and Georgia Avenue and Reedie Drive. Both are free on Sundays.
