Puppy Power: Time for Running of the Chihuahuas!

If you want an extra dose of cuteness on Cinco de Mayo, you might want to check out the third annual Running of the Chihuahuas.

Saturday starting at noon, you can head down to Southwest Waterfront (between 6th and 7th streets SW) to see a group of tiny, idiosyncratic dogs racing for charity and to win their owners cash prizes.

It costs $20 to register a dog for the race, which will be split into eight heats with the winners of each competing in a championship race.

The first-place dog will win its owner $150, second place gets $100 and third place receives $50.

Only 96 dogs will be allowed to register for the race, which you can do at On Tap Online's website

All registration fees will go to animal charities.

The event will also include all-breed contests for best trick and best outfit, all while owners attend a party with music, food and beer.

The official after-party will be held at Cantina Marina (600 Water St. SW), and dogs are of course welcome to join their owners.

Check out On Tap's official list of rules to see if your dog is eligible to participate.
