National Opera to Feature ‘Cinderella' at Nats Park in May

The Washington National Opera plans to feature the romantic comedy "Cinderella'' this year in its annual simulcast of a production that will be shown in Nationals Park.

The opera company announced Thursday that it will present Rossini's "Cinderella'' at the ballpark on May 16.

The opera will be performed in Italian with English subtitles. Rossini's version of the Cinderella story features a girl named Angelina who dreams of escaping her impoverished stepfather's castle. When a prince announces he will choose his bride at a ball, she escapes the control of her stepsisters.

This is the seventh year the company has offered "Opera in the Outfield'' at Nationals Park. The event is free and draws thousands of people each year.

This production has also been performed in Houston, Seattle and Barcelona.
