DC Woman Finds Live Frog in Salad From Cava

"It was jumping all around the bowl," Stahl told The Washington Post. "Its legs were really long"

Would you like meatballs, falafel or frog?

A D.C. woman who bought a salad from the Mediterranean restaurant chain Cava on Friday says she discovered an unwelcome addition to her order: a live frog.

Naomi Stahl sent NBC Washington video of a tiny green frog seemingly disoriented under the clear lid of a takeout salad. It steps its way over cucumbers and tomatoes.

Stahl, a graduate student at American University, said she ordered the salad at the Tenleytown location of Cava, on Wisconsin Avenue NW. She said she didn't notice until she got home that there was a live frog inside her bowl.

"It was jumping all around the bowl," Stahl told The Washington Post. "Its legs were really long."

Cava's chief operating officer, Dan Jones, said the company was looking into what went wrong.

"We sincerely apologize for this incident as it does not live up to the quality or the standards we want and will be working with our team members to reinforce our standards to ensure this does not happen in the future," Jones said in a statement to the Post. Cava did not respond to inquiries from NBC Washington.

Stahl said that after she discovered the frog, she called her boyfriend in a panic. They released the frog into a wooded area near their apartment.
