Although the National Park Service denied Catharsis on the Mall a permit to erect a 45-foot statue of a giant woman, the free festival will still bring art, music, yoga and dance to the District beginning Friday.

The all-night, all-weekend affair begins at noon Friday, with speakers, live music and panels on topics ranging from "Introduction to Improv Comedy" to a screening of "Keeping the Potomac: The Politics of Water."

Saturday events include a Baltimore community organizer's talk on gentrification, a storytelling workshop, yoga classes and more live music.

Sunday, organizers plan to march to the Capitol in support of the Equal Rights Amendment.

DJs will set an atmosphere for "cathartic dancing" overnight until 4 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.

At 8:30 p.m. Saturday, festival organizers plan to burn a temple.

A full schedule can be found on the Catharsis on the Mall website.

Organizers suggest bringing warm clothes, water and snacks for yourself.

    Admission is free.
