The western Maryland city of Cumberland is toasting its role in the Whiskey Rebellion.
The boozy festival runs Friday through Sunday at the Allegany Museum.
Museum Vice President Vic Rezendes says highlights include a bottle exhibit, period tavern games and tastings from craft distillers.
The violent uprising in the 1790s occurred mainly in western Pennsylvania in response to a federal tax on whiskey production. Grain farmers in what was then the western frontier refused to pay the tax and organized armed opposition.
President George Washington sent thousands of federal troops to quell the resistance. He visited Cumberland in the fall of 1794 to review the troops marching toward Pennsylvania.
The event is part of the city's Heritage Days Festival, celebrating Cumberland's transportation history.
