Get Your Spoons Ready: D.C. Scoop Means All-You-Can-Eat Ice Cream

Anyone with an interest in ice cream (so, EVERYONE) should check out the D.C. Scoop, when Union Market (1309 5th St. NE) celebrates National Ice Cream Day in style, with an afternoon of frozen treats.

Ice cream enthusiasts will be treated to as much ice cream, gelato, custard and frozen yogurt as they can eat from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 21. All samples are free; full-size servings will be available for purchase.

Treats will be provided from spots all around the D.C. area, including Carmen’s Italian Ice, Rare Sweets, Nice Cream Factory and Goodies Frozen Custard.

A panel of judges will crown the best dessert the 2013 D.C. Scoop Winner.

The event will also dish up live music, children’s activities, cooking demos, and an ice-cream eating contest -- for the kids -- at 3 p.m. (Who doesn't love a challenge?)

After the ice cream headaches have faded into a painful memory, kids can also enjoy face painting, dancing with the Boogie Babes and live performances from The Singing Lizard, Oh Susannah and Mr. Skip.
