Welcome to 12 Days of ZooLights, where we celebrate the festive lights decorating the Smithsonian's National Zoo at the holidays!
Today's Animal of the Day: Veiled chameleon
Habitat: These color-shifting creatures are native to Yemen and southern Saudi Arabia, but have grown to adapt to a number of different habitats including the trees, bushes and shrubs of dry plateaus, mountains and river valleys.
At the Zoo: Chameleons -- and about 70 other reptile and amphibian species -- can be found in the Zoo's Reptile Discovery Center.
Bet you didn’t know... The chameleon can move both of its eyes independently of the other and each can swivel up to 180 degrees.
About ZooLights: In this yearly display, more than 500,000 environmentally-friendly LED lights transform the Zoo into a winter wonderland. Check out the new garden scene light sculpture.
