A Paula Abdul talk show could be in the works.

Paula Abdul could soon be giving Ellen DeGeneres a run for her talk-show crown.

The ex-"American Idol" judge told TV Guide Monday that she's considering developing a talk show -- and that her departure from the Fox reality hit was about moving on, not about money.

"I definitely want to do a talk show because it would be different," Abdul told TV Guide.

"I'd be Paula," she said. "It would be a lot of fun variety with a ton of unexpected stuff and tributes to everyday people getting their big chance," said Abdul, who recently made her return to TV post-"Idol" with Lifetime's "Drop Dead Diva."

Abdul said she wasn't sure if she'd ever return to "Idol," but that she'd continue to watch the show "as much as I can."

The "Straight Up" singer and choreographer also shot down reports that she left "American Idol" because producers didn't fulfill her demands for a $20 million deal.

"I stand on principle where many people stand on money," she said.

"I'm a hardworking artist. I've lasted in this business for 23 years. And you can't do that unless you're good at what you do," Abdul said.

Abdul's next gig is as host of VH1's "Divas Live," airing Sept. 17.
