HBO to Film D.C.-Based Pilot in Baltimore

If you can't make a good D.C.-based TV show in the District, take the District to Baltimore.

That's HBO's plan.

This isn't a spin-off of "The Wire," however. HBO is going to film a pilot episode of a series called "VEEP" in Baltimore starting in late February.

The pilot will star Julia-Louis Dreyfus, who will play a former senator-turned-vice president. The comedy will center on Dreyfus's character finding out that "being vice president of the United States is nothing like she expected and everything everyone warned her about."

What's the deal with that?

Anyway... although the pilot will be filmed in Baltimore, it will be set near the White House.

“Maryland has had a long and successful relationship with HBO,” said Gov. Martin O'Malley. “We are pleased to welcome HBO back to our state for another first-class filming experience.”

The Maryland Film Office estimated that the production could have an economic impact in excess of $6 million and could create more than 700 jobs for Maryland crew and actors while prepping and filming in the state.
