NBA All-Star MVP Russell Westbrook Surprises Single Mom With a Brand-New Car

"Today was a stepping stone in showing her that everything is going to be all right."

After being crowned the NBA All-Star MVP in February, Oklahoma City Thunder player Russell Westbrook received a brand-new Kia that he could have easily driven into the sunset.

Instead, the basketball stud, a former UCLA Bruins star, decided to spread some love and give one deserving fan a gift they would never forget.

On Monday morning, Kerstin Gonzalez thought she was attending an ordinary meeting with Sunbeam Family Services. But while waiting for someone to join the appointment, the 19-year-old received a special guest.

Turns out Westbrook was in the building with a brand-new set of keys for the mother of two.

"Are they playing a prank on me or something?" Gonzalez said of her initial reaction. "When he showed me the keys, I was like 'this is real.' That's when I started to cry because it's been such a hard time."

After having her first child at 14, the single mom was hoping to graduate high school this year while working a job and applying for colleges to study forensic science. Her current vehicle was also run-down and struggled to start earlier in the day.

"There were definitely tears of joy and I could tell some tears of hard work and all the different things she's been through in her life," Westbrook said. "Today was a stepping stone in showing her that everything is going to be all right."

He added, "It's just all the hard work that she's done to be able to keep her family together. When you see somebody working hard towards a goal and finding ways every day to keep everything afloat for her two boys and her family, you can't do anything but help them out."

And while Gonzalez was quite the fan of the athlete before, her love for the self-proclaimed "swag" man has only increased.

"It's so touching and so amazing knowing that there are people out there willing to help the ones that are in need," Gonzalez shared. "He was amazing, he was sweet and so attentive to what I had to say. He's a really awesome person."
