"The Love Boat" has sailed for the last time.
The MS Pacific, better known as the eponymous cruise ship of the popular ABC television show from the '70s, sailed its final voyage to a ship-breaking yard in Turkey, a shipping group told Reuters Wednesday.
The iconic 560-foot ship — dubbed the Pacific Princess on the hit show — will be stripped for its metal parts, Ersin Ceviker of the Ship Recyclers' Association of Turkey said.
Ceviker said the ship had undergone a number of modifications over the years and had been decommissioned for five. "Renovation now would have been too costly," he told Reuters.
Decades after it proudly played host to encounters both funny and romantic on American TV, the MS Pacific's final voyage was hardly a triumphant one, according to Ceviker.
He said its trip to the Turkish ship-breaking yard from Italy was a rough one amid a storm, and after taking on water, it arrived — listing on its starboard side — only with the help of extra tugboats.
