Cissy Houston on Bobby Brown: “He Did Hurt Her in a Lot of Ways”

Cissy Houston talks Whitney Houston, new memoir on the "Today" show

Cissy Houston said her daughter Whitney Houston's marriage to Bobby Brown "wasn't the greatest idea in the world."

Cissy Houston appeared on NBC's "Today" show to talk about her memoir honoring her daughter Whitney Houston, who died almost a year ago. In her new book "Remember Whitney: My Story of Love, Loss, and the Night the Music Stopped," Houston talks about her final moments and memories with the legendary singer.

"I didn't see her that much but we always communicated in some manner," Cissy Houston recalled.

She also opened up about Whitney's troubled marriage to Bobby Brown, telling "Today's" Savannah Guthrie she “doesn’t blame” him. She did however, comment in a later interview with Al Roker that Brown "did hurt her in a lot of ways. ... She was in love, I guess."

When talking about possible interventions, she noted that, "Bad people have good children. ... It's all their responsibility when they get to a certain age to choose their way."

"She was taught, she knew the way," Cissy Houston continued.

In explaining why she wrote the book, she said people had their relationship wrong. "She and I were very, very close. She knew I loved her," Houston said.
