Hulk Hogan: I Nearly Killed Myself

The pro-wrestler said he had a gun in his hand and his finger on the trigger

Hulk Hogan grappled with suicide before a phone call saved his life, the former pro-wrestler confesses in his new book.

The WWF champion reveals in his new tome "My Life Outside the Ring" that he came so close to killing himself that he reached for a gun and placed his finger on the trigger in the turbulent aftermath of his very-public split from ex-wife Linda, according to the New York Daily News.

The muscleman said a phone call from his concerned "Gladiators" co-star Laila Ali caused him to reconsider ending his life. Hulk came "damn close" to suicide, he wrote.

The wrestling pro said the combination of "going to [a] strip club, drinking, getting all that attention from girls" on that night in December 2007 then coming home to an empty house and the news that his wife of 23 years was allegedly canoodling with a new teen boyfriend pushed him to the brink, according to the News.

"Hell, [Linda's] spending time with a 19-year-old boyfriend -- in the house that I pay for," he writes, according to the News.

Hogan also claims Linda hit the bottle hard and was abusive to the couple's two children -- one time threatening their son, Nick, with a wine bottle, according to the News. Nick, then-17, had just gotten into a car wreck that left his passenger permanently brain-damaged.

Hogan's divorce settlement was finalized in July 2009, and he is set to fork over $40,000 to Linda each month.

"I practically begged her, 'Please, don't file. Our son's just had this accident -- if we do this now, it'll make us look like the Britney Spears family. Please, don't file for divorce," he wrote.

The family was featured on the VH1 reality show "Hogan Knows Best" for six seasons.
