Lohan Prosecutor Criticizes Judge

Normal 0 Los Angeles prosecutor Danette Meyers is considering appealing a court decision to reduce the charges against Lindsay Lohan from felony to misdemeanor for stealing a necklace from Venice jewelry store.

Meyers said LA Superiour Court Judge Stephanie Sautner  “abused her discretion in this case.”   Meyers said the charge is a solid felony because Lohan was on probation at the time. She said Lohan has violated that probation “on numerous occasions.”

On Friday, the Judge justified the reduction by saying it was a common move in less high-profile cases.  Reducing the charge immediately lessened the amount of time Lohan could spend behind bars if convicted of theft.

For violating her probation, Judge Sautner sentenced Lohan to 120 days in jail and 480 hours of community service.  Her service will include work at a women’s center and the LA Morgue.

Lohan is due back in court on May 11.
