In anticipation of his first show on March 2, 2009, Jimmy Fallon — via his first video blog – has unveiled his new studio, which is currently being built, and his band for NBC’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.”
Although there had been murmurs, it wasn’t until Monday night that Fallon officially announced that the Grammy winning hip-hop band, The Roots, will be the show’s house band, when the “SNL” alum takes over for Conan O’Brien in 2009.
“We are really excited to be working with Jimmy on the new ‘Late Night,’ said Roots founder Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson. “We are looking forward to becoming part of the history of 30 Rock.”
And the 30 Rock studio, 6B, where Fallon will be broadcasting his show, has a rich history indeed. It was the home of “The Tonight Show” with its first host Jack Paar, and where Johnny Carson entertained America for 10 years when he hosted the top-rated talk show in New York. Studio 6B is also where Milton Berle performed his legendary “Texaco Star Theater,” and years before, where Bob Hope and Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin hosted radio shows.
Fallon plans on using his nightly blog to introduce viewers to his staff, set and whatever else they want to know about his upcoming show. He’s even requesting that viewers use an “Ask Jimmy” tab on LateNightwithJimmyFallom.com to pose questions.
