Inside Rihanna & Chris Brown's Stormy Relationship

The alleged violent incident between Chris Brown and Rihanna on February 8 wasn't the first time the singers' relationship had turned tumultuous, People reported.

In a cover story in the mag's March 2 issue, a source close to Brown noted that the two stars, 19 and 20, respectively, are still young. Rihanna turns 21 on Friday.

"They're both kids, really immature," the source said.

According to People, the couple had a "lover's quarrel" at Club Xtreme in August during a trip to Barbados, and allegedly left $50,000 in damages at a rented villa on the island's Gold Coast.

On February 8, the night before the Grammys, Brown allegedly bit and hit Rihanna, who was hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for her injuries. Detectives are currently investigating the incident.

Rihanna's father, Ronald Fenty, told People that the alleged assault was the first time he had heard the relationship turned violent.

"I didn't know of any previous beatings," he said.

But a source close to the couple said that "jealousy" was at the heart of their argument, while another told the mag the singer been in "compromising situations" during a trip to Europe.

"Jealousy. That's usually what causes their arguments," the first source said.

Whatever the reason, Rihanna's family is hoping that there won't be any more.

"I don't want her to go back to him," one relative said. "I don't think anyone does."
