Glam Slam: Getting Globes Ready

“It is kind of exciting to have someone really wonderful sketch a design made just for you and build a dress around you, it’s always fun” says Golden Globes nominee America Ferrera, who loves the whole dress process. She may not know what she is wearing yet this weekend, but nominee Anne Hathaway says she is good to go.

“I’m all ready. I’ve had my dress for a little bit. I’ve been dieting for it for a little bit so it’s good to have a headstart on that.”

Gowns! Jewels! Shoes! Bags! Hair! Makeup! Manicures! Pedicures! Faux tans! Last minute workouts and botox treatments! The list goes on and on as the stars get ready for the Globes.

“It’s all about a beautiful, bold lip!” says L’Oreal Paris consulting makeup artist, Collier Strong, who predicts the red carpet MAKEUP trends we will see. “Whether it’s warm or cool, a bold, opaque red lip has a very sexy yet romantic feel.”

Eyes can go one of two ways according to Collier, who is sharing his tips with GLAM SLAM readers so you can get the look at home.

“Whether it’s a wash of color or a bold, dark statement, using COLOR on the eyes looks gorgeous. Try a beautiful violet, blue or dark purple, or coordinate your eye color with your clothing. Try using color on the upper lids only, or on the upper lids and under the lower lash line. You can even add a hint of color on the inner corners and under the eye…just make sure the edges are blended out beautifully. Use a complementary lip and cheek color for softer eye makeup shades and a transparent lip and cheek look when using bolder eye colors.

“I love a dark, dramatic, METALLIC eye in black, dark brown, navy or burgundy. It’s very sexy and a great look for an evening party or event like the globes.” Collier suggests L’Oreal Paris HIP High Intensity Pigment Duos for this look. “Start with a dark liner that matches your shadow at the base of the lash. Apply a dark metallic shadow on the lid, up to the crease. Lightly run a little metallic shadow under the lower lashes. Use a lighter metallic shadow on the brow bone and on the inner corners of the eye. For a really shimmery effect, you can add an extra highlighter over the entire eyelid.” Finish the eyes with dramatic lashes paired with matte, satin skin and keep lips and cheeks very neutral.

As for HAIR, expect lots of accessories according to Jessica Tingley, Celebrity hairstylist at Serge Normant at John Frieda, who has worked with Ellen Pompeo and Mandy Moore.

“Hair accessories this year have really become popular. Big flowers are still going strong, headbands are really going and we are seeing a lot of feathers, which I think is very exciting, so big jewels & feathers & things like that.”

Jessica says big, glamourous hair will continue to dominate.

“I think we’re seeing a lot of big curls, kind of wavy hair, so I think there’s going to be a little more style this year. It’s gonna be Hollywood glamour, which we always see, but a little bit of a modern take on that. The up-dos are gonna be bigger, but really soft and loose and just kind of free and sexy. It’s going to be really pretty.
