Father Knows Best

George Clooney's dad talks about the shared passion he has with his son

Fans tuned into E.R. Thursday night, eager to see George Clooney return for the first time in nine years. Those viewers included a man who might be the actor's biggest fan: his father.

Nick Clooney teaches at the American University School of Communication. Like his famous son, he has a background in television -- but Nick Clooney spent nearly three decades as a news anchor, not an actor.

Both Clooneys share a passion for Darfur, a region of Sudan where violence has claimed the lives of up to 300,000 people, according to the United Nations. Nick Clooney has spoken more than 300 times to raise awareness about the violence.

"George does wholesale Darfur; I do retail," Nick Clooney said. "I'm out talking to colleges and high schools and fora of all kinds."

Nick Clooney said he was looking forward to Thursday's E.R., but he didn't have any spoilers to share before the show aired.

"I know this sounds silly," Nick Clooney said, "but I really never want to see George's movies until they appear on the big screen. I never want to see the early cut.

"I never want to see anything until everybody else sees it... so that I can have the same impact everyone else does."
