NBC4 Allstate Community Shred Scheduled for Dec. 12

Looking for a way to get rid of personal documents? NBC4's next Community Shred is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12.

It's set for 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Manassas, Virginia campus of Northern Virginia's Community College. The address is 6901 Sudley Road, Manassas, Virginia 20109.

Shredding is the easiest way to prevent identity theft, so bring your old bank statements and other private documents. There is a five-box maximum per each personal car.

To keep this event safe and secure, please do not bring batteries, flammables, combustibles, electronic equipment (hard drives), media materials (DVDs, CDs, tapes), binders, or hanging files.

If you plan on going to the shred, you must be in line on Nova Way by 11 a.m. For safety reasons, organizers have requested that people remain in their vehicles. No business vehicles are permitted.

This year local food banks SERVE and ACTS will be collecting non-perishable items to help fulfill a growing need during the holidays. They are asking for those coming to the Shred event to please bring a non-perishable food or household item to donate.

There will be collection bins on site and patrons will not need to leave their vehicles.

• Feminine hygiene products
• Laundry supplies
• Toilet paper
• Household cleaning supplies
• Paper towels

Here's how to get there:

From Maryland:

From Montgomery County, take I-270 south to I-495 south to I-66 west.  Drive west on I-66 to exit 47 B (234 North). You will merge onto Route 234 (Sudley Road) going north. Turn right at the traffic light on Battleview Parkway and follow the large VDOT signs for the shred line.

From Prince George's County, take I-495 south to I-66 west.  Drive west on I-66 to exit 47 B (234 North). You will merge onto Route 234 (Sudley Road) going north. Turn right at the traffic light on Battleview Parkway and follow the large VDOT signs for the shred line.

From Virginia or Washington, D.C.:

Drive east or west on I-66 to exit 47 B (234 North). You will merge onto Route 234 (Sudley Road) going north. Turn right at the traffic light on Battleview Parkway and follow the large VDOT signs for the shred line.

Or drive west on Route 29 (Lee Highway) and proceed to Route 234 (Sudley South) where you will turn left to go south. You will pass the Manassas National Battlefield Park Visitor's Center on your left and then pass the first campus marquee. At the Battleview Parkway traffic light turn left and follow the large VDOT signs to enter the shred line.
