The NBC4 Backpacks 4 Kids event was a great success, thanks to the donations of many people who stopped at the Woodmore Town Centre on Saturday.
People dropped off 90 backpacks, nearly half stuffed with school supplies, almost $2,300 and additional notebooks, pencils, crayons and other school supplies.
The goal is to supply schools and nonprofit groups throughout the D.C. area with 4,000 backpacks before the start of school.
Another event will take place on Thursday, Aug. 3 at Apple Federal Credit Union at their Kingstowne branch, at 6831 Sir Viceroy Drive, Alexandria, Virginia, from 6 a.m. until noon. All Apple Federal Credit Union branches also are accepting donations leading up to this on-site collection day.
Online donations can be made, and NBC4 will purchase and distribute backpacks and supplies.
