The First Annual Bluebird Blues Festival was held on Sunday, September 19, 1993, and attracted a culturally diverse, multi-generational audience estimated at seven thousand people. Ten blues acts ranging from the mountain tradition of Etta Baker to the contemporary Delta sound of Roosevelt "Bubba" Barns performed on three sound stages. Since then, the festival has become a Prince George’s County institution and anticipated annual family event, receiving local praise and national recognition. The festival gets better and better each year, as it is packed with exciting and riveting performances, blues workshops, craft and food vendors and Bluesville-interactive educational activities and performances for children.
