George Washington Shares His Wine

In addition to all that Revolutionary War-winning and First American President-being, George Washington also saw to it that people had plenty of wine to drink.

Now you can learn about Washington's winemaking -- and, equally importantly, taste wines from 16 Virginia wineries at the upcoming Spring Wine Festival & Sunset Tour at Mount Vernon Estate.

The event also offers live jazz on the lawn and a candlelit tours of the mansion, including the rarely opened basement where Washington stored his wine.

While individual tix for May 18 and 19 are sold out, you can will snap 'em up for Sunday, May 20. Tickets are $35; you can also preorder a fruit and cheese box here.

The estate is located at 3200 Mount Vernon Memorial Highway in Mount Vernon, Va., about 15 miles south of downtown D.C.
