Haunted Mountain Coaster? Yes, Please

Pumpkins, hauntings, corn, pumpkins... Get all your fall festival needs fulfulled in one place.

The Autumn Glory Festival, Oct. 10-14, is located near Oakland on the Maryland panhandle. During these four days, you can take a crack at a corn maze adventure, or go ahead and team up to enter the Great Pumpkin Festival, where numbered pumpkins are released into the rapids.

You'll also find pumpkin chucking, a carving contest, a greased pumpkin relay, an antique show, a farmers' market, and (somehow), dogsledding. A fall foliage driving tour peaks in mid-October, with the options of either a 20-mile or a 55-mile tour.

Perhaps most importantly, there is a haunted mountain coaster. Yes, you read that correctly. Wisp's already-popular mountain coaster gets a scary makeover in October.
For a list of detailed event info, try the brochure (PDF). The festival is about three hours west of D.C. More than a dozen bed & breakfasts are just waiting for you to gaze upon their flowered wallpaper; see a list of nearby accomodations here.
