From Hitchcock to Monty Python With a Massive Cast “Furlough”

Based on Alfred Hitchcock's take on the dramatic novel, "The 39 Steps," a Virginia production of the same name takes a comedic look at the acclaimed British thriller.

The play -- which calls for a cast of more than 140 -- is put on with a noticeably smaller cast of four, and that tweak goes as hilariously as expected.

The fours actors are almost immediately set in a series of absurd situations that require playing multiple characters in a single scene, constantly changing costumes and consistently creating moments of hilarity that could only come from such an illogical setup as this.

NextShop Theatre Company of Virginia is presenting the production in a two-weekend engagement and for a (relatively) short trip, you could join the cast (all four of 'em) for a night of deceit, espionage and hilarity.

The play runs Oct. 10-13 and 17-20 at the Industrial Strength Theater (269 Sunset Park Drive, Herndon, Va.). Tickets are available online for $25-$27.
