Join a virtual Candyland this weekend at the Great American Cake Show and Wedding Cake Competition in Maryland.
For two sugary sweet days on May 5 and 6, you can watch live cake competitions and join hands-on classes to learn how to make dimensional cake art, edible jewelry and sugar flowers, just to name a few.
The wedding cake competition pits decorators against each other to create the best wedding cake for a specific theme. A bake sale will also be ongoing during both days, with all proceeds going to a select charity.
The main show is Saturday, with demonstrations by Charmaine Jones and Steven Ciccone, offering an entire night of dessert making and how-to demos. They'll also touch on the best way to grow your catering company, how to lure high-end clientele, and why chocolate is the key to success. The session is $25 and starts at 9 p.m.
General admission for both days is $14, which includes access to competitions, vendors and cake exhibits. You can buy tickets at the door. Individual registration for select classes will be ongoing until each class is sold out.
The event will be held at 706 Agricultural Center Drive in Westminster, Md., about an hour and half from D.C.
