GW's Bathtub and Homemade Apple Butter in Berkeley Springs, W.V.

Sugar and spice and everything nice isn't just a nursery rhyme true -- it's also a fairly apt description of the 40th annual Berkeley Apple Butter Festival coming up in October.

Don't worry, you don't even have to like apple butter to enjoy this weekend of fun located in the picturesque town of Berkeley, W.V. Berkeley is loaded with a plethora of warm springs as well -- including George Washington's bathtub. Yes, for real. We know you're awed.

You'll find apple butter-making in the market square, plus a parade, free trolley rides and guided tours of the Museum of Berkeley. Tour art exhibits at the Ice House, catch blurgrass and old-timey music, watch a turtle race... and consider forgoing facial hair grooming if you're interested in competing in Saturday's Beard & Mustache Contest.

The fest is set for the weekend of Oct. 12-13, around 27 Fairfax St., Berkeley Springs, W.V. It's about two hours west of D.C.
